For the attention of ALL Veteran RNA Branch Members – UPDATE Version 1 dated 25th Sep 2026
Shipmates, in brief,
The Plymouth branch of the Royal Naval Association (RNA) have been invited to host and organise the AGM and National Conference over the weekend of June 16-18th June 2028 under the auspices of the RNA National President, Admiral Duncan Potts CBE and Area 4 and on behalf of the national network of (200+/-) RNA Branches.
It is anticipated that 250-300 RNA Veterans are likely to attend this high-profile event over the weekend, attending a series of events and a Black-Tie Gala Dinner on the Saturday night.
The culmination of the weekend will see a Drumhead Service on Plymouth Hoe in front of the Naval War Memorial to commemorate our fallen comrades on Sunday 18th June. It is anticipated that 25 +/- National Standards will also be in attendance with as large a contingent of naval veterans possible marching onto the Hoe starting from the Royal Citadel, home of 29 Cdo Regiment. The RN Riders (SIG) have also been invited.
Arrangements are in the very early stages but the service will be conducted by The Chaplain of the Fleet with the Saluting Officer still to be identified. In attendance will be a number of Senior Naval Officers, Lord Mayor and civilian and service personnel and dignitaries.
This prestigious event has not been undertaken in Plymouth for some 25 years and is expected to be a major effort combining both the Royal Navy and civilian and Police authorities and a significant occasion in the Plymouth diary in 2028.
Currently, and at this early stage, we are establishing contacts and communication with various venues and organisations. Given the importance we place on commemorating our fallen comrades it is hoped to invite HM The RM Band Plymouth to lead the National Standards and a contingent of Veterans.
All activities will be based around our accommodation in the Crowne Plaza Hotel and will be within walking distance of The Barbican, Plymouth Hoe, City Centre and all tourist attractions within view of Plymouth Sound.
In addition, a “Return to Raleigh” day may be possible on the Friday morning with the RNA Golf Tournament being undertaken at the China Fleet Country Club. A ‘Meet n’ Greet’ drinks reception will take place in the WO & Sgts Mess on the Friday night in The Royal Citadel, home of 29 Cdo Regiment. It is envisaged that firm arrangements will be in place immediately following completion of the 2027 AGM in Durham with cost & booking arrangements in place shortly thereafter. It is hoped for a maximum turnout and for you all to enjoy a good run ashore in Guzz visiting your old haunts!!
